Meet The Band

Hornucopia pays tribute to the innovative music of the era of horn rock and beyond, featuring music from Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, Steely Dan, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Joe Cocker and many more. Dazzling audiences for over 10 years, they've gained the reputation of an exciting, much-requested act.

Each member comes from a long history of studying music and performing in studios and on stages around country. Off stage, you'll find them working in music education, pit orchestras and behind-the-scenes in the music business. Get to know more about each member, and say “Hi” after a show!

Kevin Thomas

Vocals

Kevin is a 30-year veteran of the music industry. Long before creating Hornucopia in 2015, he founded the highly-successful pop and R&B band, Power Of 10, playing over a thousand events and festivals around the midwest and beyond. He also enjoyed a successful career as an talent agent, helping musical acts and venues connect and grow their audience. Off stage, Kevin is a graduate-level social worker, enjoys the outdoors and life with Jamie, his wife of over 30 years.

Pete Metcalf

Guitar & Vocals

Pete brings a love of guitar gadgetry, great live music, and hands-on creativity to everything he does. When he’s not on stage, you’ll find him playing hockey, working on carpentry projects, gardening, or cooking something delicious. Pete is also a proud dad and grandfather with a daughter, son-in-law, and four grandkids who keep life full and joyful.

Aaron Adkins

Saxophone

Aaron has been a Twin Cities standout since launching his career at 19 with The Hothead Swing Band, earning the nickname “Minnesota Mean” for his explosive, hard-edged tenor sound in the late ’90s jazz and R&B scenes. He’s excited to bring that energy to Hornucopia’s horn section. Offstage, the Minnesota native can be found at Twins games, canoeing local waters, or enjoying life in Mendota Heights.

Zach Gingerich

Trombone

Zach is a Minneapolis-based freelance musician, teacher, and arranger originally from Conway, Arkansas. He moved to Minnesota in 2009 and earned his Bachelor of Music Performance degree from St. Olaf College, followed by a Master of Music from The Boston Conservatory and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota. Outside of music, he enjoys cooking, hiking, and camping with his wife and dog.

Kurt Christensen

Trumpet

Kurt has been a key part of the Twin Cities music scene since the early 80s. He has played with rock and R&B groups such as Jade, Blue Plate Special, and Ponzi Scheme. In the summer, you’ll often find him performing with the New Orleans–style brass band The Dirty Shorts around local parks and fairs.

Pete Berg

Trumpet

Pete is a freelance musician who has an extensive performance background in multiple genres, including performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 1999. He is a student of Bobby Shew and Roger Ingram. When not making music, he loves being among the lakes and trees of northern Minnesota.

Dan Baumgartner

Keys & Vocals

Dan enjoyed a 30-year career teaching K–12 music in the Hudson and Somerset districts in Wisconsin. A St. Olaf College graduate with advanced training from the University of St. Thomas, he has served widely as a worship and music director, and has performed live since junior high across genres from classic rock to jazz. He aslo performs solo around western Wisconsin as "Dan the Piano Man".

Jonathan Thomas

Bass Guitar & Vocals

Performing for over 40 years in a variety of bands and styles, Jonathan is a seasoned bassist and singer/songwriter with a diverse collection of 4 to 7-string basses. When not performing with Hornucopia, you'll find him in local shows ranging from original jazz to Rush tributes.

James Schneeberg

Drums

James grew up surrounded by music, with his earliest memories being Chicago records playing at home. He began performing at a young age—first on piano, then drums—and has since played thousands of shows across the upper Midwest in the genres of blues, country, funk, R&B, jazz, classical, Christian and classic rock. In addition to drumming, he enjoys singing, composing, and cheering on his kids at their musical performances.
